Bala Cynwyd is the area just outside of the city of Philadelphia in Montgomery County separated by  by the cleverly-named City Line Avenue. Shopping, high rise office buildings, television studios and hotels line the busy road, and St Joseph´s University and Lankeneau Hospital (in photo above) are nearby. Originally two towns of Bala and Cynwyd (Welsh in origin), the area is more diverse than most along the Main Line. Public transportation makes this a fairly densely populated area, although primarily with single family homes. Many are constructed of the beautiful Pennsylvania field stone that gives the entire Main Line area its unique character. The first stop on the "main line" railroad is in Bala Cynwyd.
